i was called for my 2nd interview and cadet pilot aptitude test on the 10th of September.....damn i went crazy, i was head over heels about being a SIA cadet pilot...
so i went on for the interview early in the morning at around 8 am(the test n interview is only at 8.45am) stunned to see i was the only one that early! i guess it doesn't hurt to be early, beta early
then late...
so i waited on alone for like 10 minutes at the entrance( i was not allowed in until 8.30 due to security reasons) then came one of the other candidates, a guy around 30 years old of age. well we started talking and we realized we came for the same interview.... i became a little bit worried for my chances of getting employed by SIA (come on man this guy is from the air force!, i' m like a A levels fresh grad!)
then as we waited we saw a big group of very well groomed ladies coming in through the gate(yeah u guessed it, they are the SIA Singapore Girls)
then it was 8.30, and the security officer gave us a pass(looks like an ezlink card) which we tap to get doors open.
the place(SIA training centre) is great trust me, i fell in love with it on first sight...
then we waited at the lobby for the rest of the candidates to arrive, they all came at aroun 8.40am(here i am talking bout being early)which is five minutes b4 the aptitude test.
we were held up at the lobby until a senior cadet pilot came to guide us(Mr. Calvin to be precise).
so we shook hands with almost everyone who passes by(they are all ur potential collegues, so be nice!)
so we went to the 4th floor flight ops division for our test, we were led to a meeting room.
and there it was our first task of the day.
we were basically asked to write an essay! damn i hate essays!!! so i wrote the essay, oh yeah the title was 'Why do you want to be a pilot?'(isn't it obvious??? gud pay, free travel, medical fully covered, 3 months bonus!).
after writing the essay i cooked up in 5 minutes, we were then led to the computer room, for our aptitude test...
this is where the fun part is.... we were given each a computer, a joystick, 2 foot paddles... so it was a test of how gud ur sense of logic is n how fast ur mind reacts to changes....
damn it was more like a game....kinda fun n cool..haha(except for the old msdos format, the test was given in)
we finished that at around 11.30 am.
after that we were givin a brief description on the programme n stuff like that....kinda boring..(lots of forms to fill up)
then it was break time! finally, damn hungry oledi...
so we went had lunch, the food was super cheap! was one of the cheapest chicken rice i have eaten in singapore!~only $2(usual price $3.50-$4.00) n a large portion of it too...
den had sum Coke(my fav drink)
the scene at the STC cafeteria is almost as busy as an airport...(i cant seem to find any other words to describe it)
there were 50 round tables(approx.) of which almost all were full.
not to mention mostly occupied by tall, stunning, flawless, nubile, very well groomed and polite ladies(actually the list of words go on and on for a few pages, but my vocabulary is not that good to list them all)~hehe
so here comes the difficult part...the final interview cum tea party..
we went back up to flight ops division at 1.30pm... there we were just sitting on the sofa talking for a few minutes...then one of the candidates took out some notes to read(i checked it out,it was sum flight dynamics stuff n SIA history n fleet). i was still just sitting around, then another candidate took out some notes n started reading, slowly almost everyone started reading notes... i started to think*should have brought sum notes too, damn!*
so i couldnt take seeing all of em reading the same bernooulli n how many planes SIA has(come on man, bernoulli is it that difficult to say high pressure at the bottom n low pressure at the top???) actually this questions were never asked!lol wat a waste...
so as i was sayin, i couldnt take it, so i went to the most peaceful place on earth(the toilet, SIA kept it well cleaned) i washed my face n fixed my attire for the interview.
when i came back to the seating area(where my fellow candidates were studying passionately) to notice that they stopped studying! lol
so at 2.15 pm the first guy was called in...
the interview went on for like 30 minutes per person...(there were only 7 of us, only 8 got thru the first interview n one guy didnt attend the final)
i was the last guy on the list to be interviewed...
had to wait until 5.15pm for my turn...(super tiring)
so i waited, n my turn was up...i went in as confident as i can possibly be...
then i was basically fired with the same old questions,
~why u wanna b a pilot??
~wats the diff between a pilot n a bus driver?
~u sayin pilots are comparable to bus drivers?
~how do u know u like to be a pilot??
~have u flown a plane b4?, if not how do u know u like this job?
~wat will u do if u dun get this job?
and alot more of this kinda shitty questions....(come on man, im trying my best here, u wanna ask me if i like da job? u tink i will come for this interview n spend all those money for taxi n clothes if i dun wana be a pilot???) basically i was pissed off! but i stayed calm, n answered to the best of my ability...
then came the tea party at around 6pm... where the candidates n interviewers talk freely n informally... so i just talked n played nice with al of em...
so that was all, i made it all the way to the final stage....just had to wait till the next morning(11/09/08 at 11.30) where i will call them for my results...
i felt really bad after the interview...i went back home n tried to calm down, n when i realised i couldnt take it no more, i walked to East coast beach(its near my uncle's place in singapore) and sat there from 11pm to like 12.30 am...just blankly lookin at the sea n the ships...
so the the time came for me to call them, i called and i was told that my application was not successful...(damn i was sad, i was actually crying inside)
i was speechless, couldnt say a word... so i had this moment of intense sadness which i didnt really like..
then i planned my next move, i knew SIA not gonna be a reality....
so i found my way back to Jb alone.
the ride back to jb was like a ride back from a graveyard~lol
i cant take failure sometimes...aihhhhhh
so i reached home
n just chilled doin nothing but looking for altenative ways for me to be Pilot...
i found a few ways
~self funding(go flying college, pay 60kAUD per year for 3 years excluding living expenses)
~apply for MAS,Air Asia,Emirates or Etihad cadet pilot programmes.
~go to Malaysian Flying Academy(which is in melaka)
After thinking it over a few times n carefully analizing the pros n cons...i decided, wat da heck!, so what, if i cant be a commercial pilot? i still can fly my own private jet one day!!!
so what im gonna do next is Apply for MAS n Airasia, hopefully i can get in...meanwhile i would most probably apply to do Doctor of Medicine(MD) at UCSI.
u might think i change my mind too fast and that i' m an indecisive person, but i believe the choices that i' m making is one that will take me to where i wanna go(either fly a commercial airline or my own private jet!lol)
Sorry i have to start my blog with such a depressing post!
i cant think of anything else to write, n SIA cadet pilot interview was really a big thing for me in my life(too bad im not worthy of being a SIA cadet pilot).
